How to get to Liège
Depending on where you will be traveling from you can arrive by plane, train or car.
By Plane and train
1. Brussels National Airport
Most incoming international flights arrive at Brussels National Airport, which is in Zaventem, located about 100 km or 1 hour drive northwest of the city of Liège.
Once you arrive at the airport, the easiest way to get to Liège is the train. The train station at the airport is in the basement of the terminal building. You can find connections that run between Brussels Airport and Liège-Guillemins railway station, beginning at 5:41 a.m., and up until 00:02 p.m., with only one change in Leuven or Brussels North (Brussel Noord/Bruxelles-Nord).
2. Brussels South Charleroi Airport
Located about 100 km southwest of Liège, Brussels South Charleroi Airport is also a good alternative.
Upon arrival, you can take a bus (Line A) to Charleroi-Sud train station, and then take a train to Liège-Guillemins station.
You can find direct connections that run between Brussels South Charleroi Airport and Liège-Guillemins railway station, beginning at 4:56 a.m., and up until 21:56 p.m., or some connections with only one change in Brussels South (Brussel-Zuid/Bruxelles-midi).
By train
You can easily plan your journey on the Belgian Railways’ website: https://www.belgiantrain.be/en
From many European cities, Liège can be reached via train. There are some direct journeys, as well as those with one or two changes.
Keep in mind that the French and Dutch versions of city names might be different, and therefore somewhat confusing. The following should be useful:
French -- Dutch
Bruxelles -- Brussel
Louvain -- Leuven
Liège -- Luik
From the UK, you can take the Eurostar, with regular connections from London to Brussels. From the Brussels-Midi station there’s a direct train to Liège. When you purchase the Eurostar ticket, take the "any Belgian station" option, so you won’t have to purchase another ticket from Brussels to Liège. Don't forget your passport 😉
From the Liège-Guillemins train station, you can take a short taxi ride or a bus to the city center.
For the bus, you have to stop at "Liège Opera" and you have lots of choices :
- From the bus platform A : bus N° 1 or 48
- From the bus platform C : bus N° 25, 27, 65 or 94
Then conference hotel is a 5 minute walk.
By car
There are several options to rent a car at the airport. The drive will take just over 1 hour (depending on the traffic jam from both airports).
